Build Confidence
Do you need to build confidence? Have you heard the phrase, you are what you eat? It’s true! The food we fill our bodies with will have either positive or negative consequence on the way our bodies perform. I want us to apply that same idea to words we use to describe ourselves. We are what we say.
If you’re like most people, it is easy to find us tearing ourselves down. Why? Well, that happens for several reasons. Sometimes it depends on the company we are with. If we are experiencing a trial. What is happening in our personal or work life. And sometimes, we do it because we honestly feel that nothing positive could possibly describe us. Regardless of the reason, we must stop saying negative things about ourselves. We need to stop convincing our brains that our self-worth is non-existent and start to build confidence.
How?
Stop referring to yourself as not good enough
The reality is that there are things we aren’t good at! Accept that and move one. Failure should not define us. Failure should only inspire you to keep trying.
Quit questioning your abilities in front of others
It’s normal to have doubt in our abilities, but when we vocalize them to others, we give power to those doubts. Of course, the exception to this is talking to a trusted friend, spouse, etc., someone we know who will help us find our confidence.
Fake it ‘til you make it!
Sometimes it is hard to stay positive about ourselves. That’s when you need to just tell yourself repeatedly, “I can do this!”
Practice saying nice things about yourself
Cut the negative comments about yourself cold turkey and start speaking positively. I think we don’t want to come across as prideful or bragging about ourselves so we tend to avoid acknowledging things we are good at. You can be confident without coming across as one upping
Build up others in the process
Doing our best to build others up will naturally increase our confidence in ourselves. We will feel better about ourselves and others will gravitate towards us when we speak kindly and uplifting.
It is natural for most of us to see all the ways we fall short and vocalize those insecurities. What good does it do though? None! Speaking negatively only convinces us that we aren’t good enough. No one benefits from that. Start today with seeing and speaking about yourself in a positive way. You will be pleasantly surprised by the impact self-esteem has on your work and personal responsibilities. And the ability it has to build confidence.
