Throwing a fall party! I was recently browsing a store and since it is still Summer, naturally, I saw Fall décor already displayed on the shelves. I find this refreshing because it is a sign that cooler weather is coming! It is also a wonderful reminder of my favorite time of the year and I get giddy thinking of decorating for Fall.
Fall represents not only cooler weather but the start of many gatherings with friends and family around our tables. It is good food and the scent of cinnamon in the air. Fall has a nostalgic feel that I think transports most of us back to childhood, football games, and fun.
By the time September has rolled around, my kids begin looking for my pumpkin decorations. Last Fall, I had the opportunity to host a grand dinner in my backyard for the ladies in my church. We set up tables end to end for all to be seated together. I was asked to do the decorating, which was an easy commute commitment since it was literally in my backyard. Here’s what I did to set up for a Fall dinner.
Throwing a Fall Party
Centerpiece Extravaganza
First, I decided the centerpiece would be a collection of Fall items. I used a variety of heights, Fall colors, textures, and candles.
Next, I started by putting the larger items on the tables first. I began with the large floral centerpiece then worked outwards with smaller arrangements that I made using vases and sticks from my backyard. Each larger item was equally spaced (eyeballing it).
Then I placed my medium items. I used them to fill holes between the large items. I had pumpkins with glitter, burlap pumpkins (un-used toilet paper and paper towel rolls wrapped in burlap), and candle holders to fill this space.
Lastly, I took my smallest items and filled any gaps on the table. Tea lights, ribbon, and glittered leaves filled the space beautifully. I made sure my centerpiece was narrow so it wouldn’t obstruct plate space. There were also small bowls of candy corn used as fillers for guests to snack on before dinner started.
Between the candles on the table, the string of lights above us, and the lanterns hanging in the yard, the lighting was intimate and adequate.
The greatest thing about throwing a Fall party is the cost because there is basically no cost! If you have access to sticks, leaves, and vases, you are set. Using sticks as the “floral” piece or spray painting large leaves orange, gold, red and yellow, you will have what you need to create an elegant centerpiece. Happy Fall!
