Master Bathroom Makeover! One of my favorite things to do is to decorate a home. We have done so much work to the home we currently live in and are slowly checking off our list of things-to-do. We recently took a major item off of our list and that was renovating the master bathroom.
Master Bathroom Makeover BEFORE
One word summed up our master bath, ROUGH! It had a brown vanity that was very low. A large mirror and those hideous mirror plated lights with the bulbs coming out from them. The countertop had a curling iron burn mark from the previous owner and awful faucets. The paint was chocolate brown and storage was non-existent. We couldn’t stand to be in there.
I had been thinking of the design for this bathroom for a long time. It needed to be more functional with storage, better use of space and relaxing. It needed to complement our master bedroom with a rustic feel. We knew we were going to start from scratch and rip out the vanity, mirror, and lights.
Master Bathroom Makeover AFTER
My design began with the vanity. Rather than have 2 separate sinks and dead space between them, I felt a trough sink would be a better use of space. It would allow us space on the ends of the sink to create much-needed storage. Storage that I wouldn’t have to bend down for or dig through a drawer for items. I also wanted lights hanging from the ceiling rather than from the wall. I found these beautiful lights at HomeGoods!
The next part was creating storage. I like to hide as much of my mess as possible while making it a breeze to keep clean. With three small kids, I need to save as much time cleaning as possible! I knew I wanted tall, upper cabinets to make my storage issues disappear.
The last step was figuring out what type of vanity I did want. My “before” bathroom didn’t have space for towel storage and my laundry basket was in the middle of the room. Rather than wasting space by putting drawers or doors on the vanity, I needed space to put laundry baskets and towels. Open shelving was my best option.
Creative Budget
The greatest part of my master bath renovation was that Colby did every bit of it. He built the vanity, made the concrete countertop, built the cabinets and added all the details my little heart desired. He also made a sliding barn door to replace our boring closet door. The finishing touches of the fresh paint, mirror, plants and new towels made the room come alive.
Our final step is to tackle the shower. Stay tuned! It’s going to be pretty awesome, or at least it looks that way in my head.
