Relax!
Hurry up and relax! How often have you thought about relaxing, only to have a dozen reasons why you can’t? I get it, I do the same thing. Our society is always pushing to us to work harder and faster, that we have fallen victim to ignoring an important part of ourselves. The need to slow down and relax.
The first thing to realize is that relaxation can come in different forms for different people. Depending on your personality and the stressors in your life, we all have individual coping skills. If you are thinking, “I’m not sure how to relax”, you need to invest some time into figuring that out.
Do you Feel Guilty?
Another reason we find it hard to relax is guilt. Guilt is a dangerous emotion. It’s beneficial if you are doing something wrong that needs to be corrected, but it is devastating if it prevents you from taking care of yourself. Feeling guilty because you want to relax is an irrational thought but one that plagues us. It can convince us we are wasting time, being selfish or cause us to feel that we are letting people down due our absence. These are all irrational thoughts.
If you struggle to find a way to relax or have fallen into the trap of feeling guilty when you relax, I encourage to change your way of thinking. Focus on discovering your way to de-stress and work on making it happen, without feeling guilty.
How to Relax
Here are some ideas for ways to relax.
- Sit outside (without technology to distract you from relaxing)
- Exercise
- Learn a hobby (sewing, fishing, drawing)
- Learn a new sport
- Go for a walk
- Bake/cook
- Go out with friends
- Read
- Get away for a weekend
- Spend time with family
The possibilities are endless! Just make sure you find the time to relax, daily. It will rejuvenate your soul, mind, and body. It will allow you to refresh your way of thinking, create solutions to problems you may be facing and help you focus on what is important to you. Make it a point to hurry up and relax!
